Growing Your Own Meals at the Window
Growing Vegetable Gardens at Home
Recently more and more people have converted to home vegetable gardeners. And the reason for that to happen is not necessarily poor assortment of greens or crazy prices at the stores. For some of us having a home garden seems like a good hobby, an opportunity to stay closer to the nature or, why not, a way to get fresh organic ingredients for our meals.
Guys who have backyards and live in a “healthy” for gardening climate zone can transform their flowerbeds into small gardens. Many of them know how to do that. But what about those of us, who live in apartments? What choices do we have? It turns out that we can do a lot of the same stuff as well. What is more exciting is that there are a few ways to go about it.
At the summer time we can grow small crops on our patios or balconies in containers and flowerpots. With the right setup one can grow pretty much anything. However, choose our plants carefully to make sure that their sizes are suitable for the place where they will be growing. Do not get carried away with the idea of growing everything you need for your meals on a small patio. Remember that plants need their space, too.
Another option that may seem crazy for some, but very attractive to others is growing your veggies right inside in our apartments. Yes, it can be done! It is a bit trickier, but not impossible. Little problems come with extra care that your plants will need. We would have to consider such things, as the right temperature, pollination, fertilization and lighting. Nevertheless, it is not that as complicated as one may think.
These are some of the crops that can be grown indoor: cherry tomatoes, small-rooted carrots, radishes, spinach, eggplant, and many more. Interested in learning more? Here is a few resources that will get you started off on the subject:
