Time to Dry Fruits and Vegetables
This post is a friendly reminder of what is coming. Yes, I am talking about the winter! You may argue that it is too early to talk about it, but I would have to disagree with you. I have my reasons for that. If you want to get ready for this coming winter by drying and stocking fruits and vegetables this is just the time to do so. We are in the middle of the harvest season – the best prices for all our favorites!
Do not waste a minute! Pull out that old good dehydrator of yours or get you a new one and start drying your fruit snacks right now. Farmers’ markets are overflowing with goodies this time of the year. That is why you are going to get the best deals ever. Try drying apples, apricots, peaches, pears, tomatoes, sweet pepers, etc.

For those who are not familiar with dehydrators: Dehydrators help removing water from the food, therefore protect it from mold and bacteria. If the correct temperature is set while drying fruits and vegetables in a dehydrator (usually less than 140F) the enzymes will not be inactivated, keeping the food “alive”. There are other ways to dry fruits and vegetables, such as sun drying and oven drying. However, dehydrator is a much quicker and energy efficient way to go about it.
