All around me I see signs and advertisements for ‘March Madness’ sales and events. When I look at the beautiful, bountiful and delicious produce coming into season in March, I think of ‘March Gladness’! Spring greets us with cabbage, herbs, chives and scallions, asparagus, leeks, parsley, grapefruits and clementines. (more…)

Speaking of James Wong, I thought this neem oil head lice treatment recipe was a great example of the power of herbal remedies:

In hospital during several rounds of hip surgery, I met and saw people with varied injuries. To my surprise some were runners who had injured themselves one way or another. Now they needed artificial hips or knees. (more…)

Now that the planting season is coming here for most of us in the U.S., fresh vegetables are going to be plentiful in the coming months.
It’s an excellent time to bone up on your knife skills to get the most from your local produce.
Very popular culinary blog The Kitchn posted a nice little tutorial for those needing to learn knife handling skills when cutting fresh vegetables or a little reminder to those of us who need to brush up on them.
Particularly useful to note are the tips for keeping your cutting board from sliding and how to properly hold your knife while cutting.

When I was four I probably didn’t know what eggplant was, but tomatoes? Pretty crazy!
On a brighter note, how cool is it that this show will be on ABC? I wonder what the commercials will look like and if the advertisers will try to push back. I love it. Series Premier Friday March 26th.
Also, did you see that Jamie Oliver won this year’s TED Prize? I really support his general education message and respect that Jamie Oliver is doing.
