Sandeep Sood is a writer, entrepreneur and WLIR Squad member. He lives in Berkeley, California with his wife Deepa, two sons, and A LOT of hippies.

The healthiest, happiest, most productive people I know are not raw foodists.

They are energetic, smiley, 60 year old Indian woman who love their milky tea and starchy diets.  They are 75 year old martial artists who rarely eat anything that isn’t fried or drink anything that isn’t scotch.  They are President-Elects who sneak cigarettes, make a mean chili, and eat a lot of chicken.

Food Combining on the Raw Food Diet

November 19th, 2008

This post was syndicated from the following source | Source Feed

The principles of food combining are based upon the premise that different foods require different times and stomach conditions for optimal digestion and nutrient absorption. Also, they require different types of enzymes and acid secretions. Mixing too many of the wrong types of foods (even raw foods) together at one meal therefore results in fermentation, putrefaction and gas. (more…)

That we must eat to keep up our strength is a deep-seated belief in our society. When someone is sick, we bring a casserole. If someone dies, the family is overwhelmed with homemade dishes from well-meaning friends. But these are the times when we can benefit the most from limiting food intake. (more…)

My Way: Charles Balcer

Charles Balcer has just recently dropped out of work and into life. He’s currently based in NYC.

Dhrumil couldn’t have asked me to write this at a stranger time in my
life. I’d been thinking all week long that about quitting my job.  It’s
something I’ve been contemplating for awhile now.  Blame raw foods.  It
has a knack for making you to want get more involved in this holistic
way of living.  Suddenly, money didn’t seem so important anymore.  I
found myself thinking more about fresh sunshine, clean water, foraging
in the wild… eating raw has a way of connecting you to nature like
nothing else.  And I was filled with a desire to help others get
healthier by changing the way they eat.  I’m not the only one who felt
this way either.  Philip quit his job and now he’s traveling around the
country giving talks and working on a book.  Anthony left NYC to do his
permaculture project in Minnesota.  Even our beloved Dhru gave up his
successful consulting business to focus on this lifestyle full-time.
I’m just the latest in a long line of people to finally “get it.”

Biochemistry behind rawfoodism

November 15th, 2008

This post was syndicated from the following source | Source Feed

I always feel so fortunate when I get to corner a biochemist and ask them what they think of the rawfoodist idea. I got another chance and here in my lay-persons language is what I learned from a biochemist who is currently focusing on nutrients that will best grow human cells in the lab. Incidentally he also expressed reservations about eating grilled food anymore after learning what he knows about cooked food. He verified that vitamins do get destroyed by the heat. He said that when the food gets brown or black from cooking toxins have been produced.
